Treatment for my degenerative hip joint? |
|||||
Question:
Answer: I am in my late 40's and have been diagnosed with degenerative arthritis of the hip joint. I have been advised that I must start a program of exercise therapy and medication. I need some input as to recommended foods, medicatiins, other treatments etc. Your doctor should be the one making those recommendation. He's the one who should refer you to a PT and dietician, and he's the one who should be giving the medications advise. If he's not doing these things, find another doctor, one who will communicate with you. Another question you need to ask is why? DJD in a 40 year old is not common. Did you injure your hip playing sports or in some type of accident? Has your doc ruled out other underlying diseases? The answers to your questions really depend upon the answers to my questions. Weight control is important, as is maintaining muscle strength around the hip and in your back and stomach. Pain managment is also important. There are many techniques, including meditation, various relaxation techniques, and cognitive restructuring. A good place to get started learning these is at a Self-Help class offered by the Arthritis Foundation. Then can be reached at http://www.arthritis.org/ |
