Gluten-free Ibuprophen? Does Tylenol offer GF pain relief caplets for arthritis?

Question:
Can someone recommend a brand (in the US) that is free of gluten? I have heard that Tylenol Arthritis Pain Extended Relief pills are free of gluten. I’m wondering if the coatings on pills like Advil contain gluten. I'm not in the US, so I can't be specific, but I know in some countries, pharmaceutical companies are not required to list all the ingredients on the packaging, which makes it really hard to determine whether or not they contain gluten. About 2 months after being diagnosed, I had to buy some cold and flu tablets whilst on holiday and I asked the chemist if they were gluten free. They checked the packet and assured me they were. Well after a week of feeling terrible and getting a recurrence of DH, I contacted the company and was told that they DID contain gluten!

In my experience, most pill - like tablets do contain gluten. This in the ingredients they use to bind them. Capsules are more likely to be safe, and most liquid medicines are fine. But I ALWAYS check with the company now before I take anything or give anything to my kids who are both Coeliacs as well. The only problem is when you need to buy some medicine on the weekend which is always the way, but it's best to be safe. Once you have a few brand names checked out it makes it easier. Sometimes the pharmacist has a book containing more specific information, so ask them, but don't rely on them. The MIMS directory which most doctors prescribe from in Australia has a symbol (a cross inside a circle) beside each item that is gluten free. Your doctor or pharmacist may not realize the symbol is there.
